Teaching Apprenticeship

Future Schools Trust offers Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeships (PGTA) as an alternative route into teaching. PGTA is a new, nationally recognised work-based route into teaching, providing students completing the course the opportunity to achieve a full QTS. The PFTA is a great pathway into teaching for those candidates who are looking for a complete career change or who are looking for an earn and learn route without the burden of student debt.

Apprenticeship structure

The overall structure for the PFTA is tailored to individual needs, but apprentices must spend 20% of their time in off-the-job training. This ensures the development of the apprentice’s skills, knowledge, and competency in the classroom.
After completing the apprenticeship, candidates are assessed against the teachers’ standards required to be awarded QTS.

Apprentices will then complete an end-point assessment (EPA) in their fourth term. An assessor from an EPA organisation conducts the assessment, helping to quality assure the training and teaching development.

The assessment has 2 components:
· lesson observation
· professional discussion

Eligibility

Candidates must have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade 4 GCSE in English and Mathematics (and Science if you are training to teach at primary level). Candidates with overseas qualifications should provide a ENIC statement to demonstrate the equivalency of their qualification.

Candidates must hold a first degree from a UK higher education institution or equivalent qualification 2:2 or above.

School experience is required

Duration can be 12 to 15 months.
